Flagler Pharmacy is located in Flagler Beach, Florida and is owned by Pat Patel  who took ownership of the pharmacy in 2019. Pat has a strong connection with his community, providing outstanding customer service and getting to know the names of each and every patient who walks through his doors.  

Challenge

The location of Flagler Pharmacy is ideal for local beachgoers but proved challenging for a pharmacy business with healthcare services, and growth of the business was slow at first. The store layout was unique, with two entrances on either side of the store, but this made it difficult to merchandise, and there was an opportunity to improve the overall look and feel of the front end. Additionally, customers were asking for specific healthcare services that weren’t available in the local area. 

Solution

Together, Pat and his business coach developed an action plan to revitalize the front end to provide an improved shopping experience along with the healthcare services that the community needed. They enlisted the Good Neighbor Pharmacy retail merchandising specialist and were able to organize their aisles, create space for durable medical equipment (DME) products, and add a nurse practitioner consultation area that doubled as a point-of-care testing and vaccination space.

Outcome

Pat quickly started to see the benefits of his investment paying off: 

• Front-end sales increased 40% year-over-year
• Front-end profitability increased 44% year-over-year
• Prescription count increased by 3,000 (17.5 percent) year-over-year
• Total sales grew 20.6% year-over-year
