This pharmacy is in Central California and has been in business for over 70 years.

Challenge

After a thorough analysis of the business, the business coach saw that the pharmacy’s overall script count was down 20 percent. Adherence scores were low, and the owner was becoming more and more frustrated over the ever-increasing DIR fees. The business coach also realized that the pharmacy had left more than $30,000 in Humana opportunities on the table the year prior between their two pharmacies.

Solution

Together, the pharmacy owner and the business coach developed an action plan involving the entire pharmacy staff. The team would work together on improving patient adherence and maximizing their Humana opportunities by taking the following steps:

  • Each PIC would check the Humana outliers report weekly
  • Each PIC would complete all MTMs, CMRs, and TIPs. PICs were held accountable to send a weekly completion report to the owner.
  • A designated technician would pull Patient Engagement Center (PEC) data on a weekly basis to ID non-adherent patients. These patients would be offered 90-day fills, free delivery, compliance packaging, and med sync.

Outcome

Motivated by their success, the pharmacy staff work to continuously improve their MTM/CMR and TIP process
$25,000
recoupment in Humana opportunities
2-3%
